Student Allowances

All students attending Grade 8 up to and including Grade 12 in the Bella Coola Valley and living on reserve are entitled to the student allowances.

Students in Grades 8, 9 and 10 are entitled to $10.00 per month.

Students in Grade 11 are entitled to $20.00 per month.

Students in Grade 12 are entitled to $30.00 per month.

Students are deducted $2.00 for a full day and $1.00 for ½ day of unexcused absences from school. To be excused of any absences from school, the reason must be valid and upon returning to school, every student must have a note or letter stating the dates and/or time and reason(s) for the absence, signed by a parent or guardian. There are no deductions for an excused absence. Student allowances are given out 3 times a year:

first allowance = last school day of December;

second allowance= last school day before spring break;

third allowance = last day of school in June.

Books and Supplies Allowance

Students are eligible if they live on the Nuxalk reserve, attend school in the Bella Coola Valley, and are in Grade 1 up to and including Grade 12. Students in Grades 1 to 7 receive $20.00; students in Grades 8 to 12 receive $25.00. The allowance is signed to parents or guardians.
